THE MEASUREMENT PROTOCOL

Steps to a Successful
Radon Measurement

Our certified process follows EPA-approved protocols to deliver accurate, defensible radon measurements. Every step matters from closed building conditions to report delivery.

01

Initiate the Request

We will need your name, contact information, reason for the test, property address, property details, and realtor information if applicable. Submit online or call us directly.

02

Schedule Property Access

We will schedule a time to access the property. If the test is part of a real estate transaction, we will coordinate with the listing agent. Otherwise, we will schedule access with the home owner.

03

Verify Closed Building Conditions

The Radon Measurement technician establishes that closed building conditions have been met including: Windows closed for 12 hours, temperature between 67–77°F, and fireplace flues closed.

04

Monitor Placement

The technician places Radon monitors in appropriate locations. Measures will be taken to ensure monitors are not disturbed and closed building conditions are maintained throughout the test.

05

Monitor Pickup  48+ Hours Later

Arrangements will be made for Radon monitor pick up  typically 48 hours after the monitor is set. If closed building conditions were not met at the time of monitor drop off, the test may be extended.

06

Pickup Verification

The Technician arrives at the property to pick up monitors. The building is checked again for closed building conditions. The technician will also look for signs of tampering.

07

Report Delivery & Payment

The technician uploads all data including notes and floor plans. The report is assembled and reviewed. Payment is required before the report is released.

The Measurement Protocol

What Are Closed Building Conditions?

For accurate results, specific conditions must be maintained for 12 hours before and throughout the entire test period. Our technicians verify all conditions at drop-off and pick-up.

Windows & Doors

Windows should be closed for 12 hours before the test begins. Doors should be kept closed as much as possible, though normal entry and exit is acceptable.

Housekeeping

Whole house fans shall not be used. Ceiling fans, portable dehumidifiers, and air filters should not be used within 20 feet of a monitor. Fireplaces shall not be used and the flue damper should be kept closed. Dryers, range hoods, and bath exhaust fans can be used in moderation.
